This program is designed for young adventurers who like being challenged and are looking to learn and grow their water adventures skillset. Early in the week we will focus on providing adventurers with the “tools” and skillsets they need to overcome the challenges they will be presented with each day.
We strongly believe in the mutual benefit of having older or more experienced participants mentor or “team up” with younger participants and novices.
Learning outcomes of our program will include knowledge of the tides, paddling techniques, marine science, and of course incorporating social and life skills such as patience, compassion, overcoming challenges, and dealing with stressful situations collaboratively. During inclement weather/waves we may also build tidepool touch tanks, seaglass and shell artwork, and make maps of our adventures among other things.
Each day will be different and will build on the skills learned in previous days culminating in our EOTW (pronounced EAT-WAH) Challenge Expedition on Thursday. While we challenge our participants we also believe in the model of “challenge by choice” pioneered by the founders of Project Adventure.
All our program staff have experience working with youth, and are CPR and First Aid certified and trained.
